Ontañón
Familia
Four wineries in three historic Spanish DOs:
Rioja, Rueda and Ribera del Duero
BODEGAS ONTAÑÓN, QUEIRÓN AND RIPPA DORII
The Ontañón Familia winemaking company represents the philosophy of a family that has dedicated its life to wine over four generations and the realisation of the dream of Gabriel Pérez, a Riojan vine grower and winemaker who, together with Mari Luz Cuevas, and their four children: Raquel, Leticia, Rubén and María, produce fine wines in their family-owned vineyards in the DOCa Rioja, DO Rueda and DO Ribera de Duero appellations, through Bodegas Ontañón, Queirón and Rippa Dorii. In each one of these projects they apply their love for viticulture, maximum respect for nature and the pursuit of excellence
Bodegas Ontañón (DOCa Rioja)
Ontañón is in every sense the original project of the Pérez Cuevas family in the small Riojan town of Quel. The essence of Rioja and its viticulture, this bodega took its first steps with the family vineyards and the philosophy of making crianza, reserva and gran reserva Rioja wines. In the nineties they set up their bodega-museum, their Temple of Wine, in Logroño, a pioneering initiative in wine tourism which became a true architectural and artistic gem thanks to the friendship between Gabriel Pérez and the Riojan artist Miguel Ángel Sáinz, which transformed the place into one of the most original in the whole of the historic Rioja appellation.
FAITHFUL TO RIOJA AND TO ITS AUTOCHTHONOUS VARIETIES
Ontañón has kept the ethos of the family bodega intact, respecting the land and the autochthonous varieties, which continue to thrive and flourish with each new harvest and a vocation for internationalisation of Rioja wines which has given us a presence in more than thirty countries all around the world.
Bodega Queirón (DOCa Rioja)
GRAVITY AND THE SOUL OF QUEL
Queirón is the most intimate of the Ontañón Familia bodegas. An amazing space rooted in the historic Barrio de Bodegas (Bodega Quarter) of Quel, thanks to an architectural layout which spreads over four levels, literally burying itself in the space which has for centuries been made up of traditional caves. It maintains the same philosophy, with its skylights in the upper part to take advantage of the traditional Quel formula of reception of the grapes in which the various steps in the winemaking process are based on making use of gravity.
LIMITED COLLECTION WINES
Queirón makes wines in limited collections which express the soul of the town, the beauty of the landscapes and the austerity of the soils. Hundred-year-old vines, village wines and special editions which spring from high-altitude vineyards which climb to the limits of the cultivated area of the slopes of the Sierra de Yerga in the shadow of the Gatún peak.
Bodegas Rippa Dorii (DO Rueda and DO Ribera del Duero)
THE CASTILIAN WINES OF THE DUERO
Rippa Dorii (on the banks of the Duero, in Latin) represents a new way of feeling, of knowing the wines of Castile in their most profound and essential definition, the historical roots of a distant winemaking tradition, of austere, mysterious lands, very poor soils and endless blue skies, which since even before the Middle Ages, has been famed for the quality of its wines bathed by the River Duero / Flumen Dorii, as the backbone of the crops.
UNKNOWN TERROIRS
Fine red wines from the Ribera del Duero and white wines with the pure, essential character of Rueda. Rippa Dorii. Rueda and Ribera. Ribera, Rueda and Duero. Tempranillo and verdejo. Two bodegas: the one in Rueda (Valladolid) to extract the soul from the whites and the one in Fuentecén (Burgos), born to delve into the most extraordinary and unknown terroirs of this district through its ‘Geografías’ collection. Family vineyards in privileged zones in the Duero Basin.
